St. Augustine Preparatory Academy (Aug Prep) is a K4-12 Christian School on Milwaukee’s South side that opened in the summer of 2017. The school is a student-centered environment where young learners take ownership of their education not only in academics, but also physical health, creativity, and faith. Our graduates will go on to achieve their highest potential and make our city, and ultimately the world, a better place. The school currently enrolls about 1,500 students and employs over 175 staff members.


Position Description

The Human Resources Manager has the unique opportunity to make meaningful contributions at a growing, entrepreneurial-minded, mission-driven organization. In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, the HR Manager will drive change in areas such as compensation, benefits, employee satisfaction, and organizational culture. As the “go-to” person in HR, the Manager should be a strong relationship builder who can support team members through all phases of their employment journey.  This role will be instrumental in all levels of HR, from overseeing bi-weekly payroll processing, to developing company-wide policies, to accomplishing strategic HR objectives that will drive employee engagement and retention. 


Job Responsibilities and Roles

-Serve as communications lead and point of contact for the day-to-day needs of employees in areas like compensation, benefits, job responsibilities, policies and procedures, and performance expectations

-Complete daily HR tasks, such as payroll processing and employee compensation/benefit updates both efficiently and effectively 

-Plan, implement and evaluate employee programs and policies to ensure they align with organizational goals and promote employee engagement

-Oversee the employment lifeline: recruiting,  interviewing, new hire, onboarding, talent development, engagement, retention, termination

-Counsel managers through hiring, discipline, and coaching in accordance with the employee relations procedures

-Establish metrics for evaluating organization culture and employee satisfaction; actively drive changes in response to those metrics

-Act as liaison between Aug Prep and external legal and professional resources to ensure the school is in compliance with current laws and regulations

-Update policies, procedures, and guidelines in the employee handbook in accordance with federal and state laws

-Provide practical and required training to managers and employees in areas such as harassment, anti-discrimination, and policies specific to the school



-A belief in the ability of every child and a commitment to ensure excellence for each student

-Participating member in a local Church

-Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human resources or business

-At least three years of experience in human resources; preference for five years or prior leadership experience

-Deep understanding of local and federal HR laws and regulations including but not limited to Civil Rights Act, ADA, FMLA, etc. 

-Experience with Kronos payroll system a plus

-Experience managing people, including coaching and having “crucial conversations”

-Effective organizational and managerial skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results on time

-Outstanding oral and written communication skills

-Proficiency with technology and data

-A desire to continually learn, as well as a flexible attitude to grow and change as the organization does

-Ability to work independently without close oversight but also a team player committed to the Augustine Prep mission and model

-Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of Augustine Prep
