Human Resources (HR) Specialist
St. Augustine Preparatory Academy (Aug Prep) is a K4-12 Christian School on Milwaukee’s South side that opened in the summer of 2017. The school is a student-centered and Jesus-centered environment where young learners take ownership of their education not only in academics, but also physical health, creativity, and faith. Our graduates will go on to achieve their highest potential and make our city, and ultimately the world, a better place. The school currently enrolls about 1,500 students and employs over 175 staff members.
We are looking for someone who loves Jesus and loves supporting talent development! The Human Resources Specialist has the unique opportunity to make meaningful contributions at a growing, entrepreneurial-minded, mission-driven organization. Under direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the HR Specialist will be responsible for essential HR procedures. The ideal candidate is detail oriented, enjoys improving processes, and is able to problem-solve in new situations. As the position will interact directly with employees across the organization, a positive attitude and desire to help will be essential. The HR Specialist will be exposed to all facets of HR and will have abundant opportunities to grow their skillset.
Job Responsibilities and Roles
Key areas of focus will include:
-Hiring and onboarding: shepherd candidates through the process, ensuring all steps of hiring are correctly completed, gathering information from candidates, setting up new employees in the system, enrolling new employees in benefits, explaining core mission/vision of the school to new staff
-Payroll: update bi-weekly payroll for changes (new hires and terminations, changes to employee pay) and reviewing for accuracy
-Annual employment cycle: manage performance review and employment processes, issuing new contracts, tracking signing progress, updating all related systems and documentation, overseeing open enrollment
-HR maintenance and compliance: maintain HR records, making changes to employee accounts (addresses, names, benefits), tracking of turnover and retention, assisting with compliance tasks
-Employee point of contact: act as a key HR connection for the team, building trust with team members, navigating employment conversations with confidentiality and integrity, initiating appropriate next steps, and escalating as needed
The candidate does not need to have experience in all the areas listed above, but should have some familiarity with how these functions work within a business.

-Bachelor’s degree, preferably in human resources or business
-One to three years of experience in human resources
-Experience with Kronos payroll system a plus
-Effective organizational and managerial skills, including extreme attention to detail
-The ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results on time
-Outstanding oral and written communication skills
-Proficiency with technology and data analysis
-A desire to continually learn, as well as a flexible attitude to grow and change as the organization does
-Ability to work independently without close oversight but also a team player committed to the Augustine Prep mission and model
-Lastly and most important, the candidate must demonstrate and possess the highest integrity and be able to live the values, beliefs, and culture of Augustine Prep
