Jay Conklin Elementary School Visual Arts Teacher

Ms. Conklin earned a BFA from Appalachian State University with a focus in Art Education. She has taught art education in the highlands of Scotland and most recently in Asheville, North Carolina for the past three years. She has exhibited her illustration in several galleries in North Carolina and is part of the Appalachian Artists Permanent Collection at Appalachian State University. In the fall of 2018 she was an Artist in Residence at the Sequential Arts Workshop in Gainesville, Florida.

Ms. Conklin’s pedagogy revolves around the idea that a successful art education builds artistic skill, an understanding of art history, and most importantly, gives students the courage to be creative. A creative person has these artistic behaviors: the ability to make their own choices, creatively problem solve, take risks, and connect with others and the world around them in a positive way. Her role as an art educator is to foster this process and honor the child as an an artist and person. Ms. Conklin is excited to be part of St. Augustine family and looks forward to providing a holistic art education to the students of St. Augustine Prep!
