For the last 13 years, Dr. Collins has served students in both suburban and urban school districts. Her experience ranges from being a special education teacher in the elementary and high school levels, GEDo2 Coordinator, PBIS building facilitator, as well as Dean of Students in a K-8 building. Dr. Collins’ passion for building relationships between students and staff and building social and emotional learning capacity in students has motivated her to continue her leadership with St. Augustine’s.
Dr. Collins came on board as Director of Special Education in spring 2017. She will be overseeing the special education department as well as mentoring teachers to develop their educational capacities to meet the needs of our students. Dr. Collins is excited to bridge her passion of culturally responsive teaching and social and emotional learning with the teachings and lessons of Christ.
Dr. Collins completed a bachelor’s degree in science education with a double major in special education from the University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire. She earned a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Minnesota- Twin Cities. In 2015, she completed her doctorate in education from National Louis University in Chicago, Illinois and received her director of curriculum and instruction license and her principal license.
