Melinda Merkl began her journey as an aspiring Art Therapist in September 2013 at Mount Mary University, and later received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Art Therapy in May 2017. She continued her education at Mount Mary where she is now working on her Masters of Science in Art Therapy. During her journey in the master’s program Mrs. Merkl has interned at St. Luke’s Hospital and Froedtert Hospital. There she used art as a way for people to cope with many challenges of being hospitalized.
Mrs. Merkl has been a gymnastics instructor for 6 years, where she discovered her passion for working with children. She believes that children deserve the opportunity to develop their creative mind as a tool to explore life. Mrs. Merkl believes in the importance of being at a child’s level to really understand who they are.
Mrs. Merkl joined Augustine Prep in January 2019 as an Art Therapy Intern. She will work closely with the art therapist on sight, students, administrative staff, mental health supports, teachers, and parents to continue supporting and developing an integrative model for education in Milwaukee.
