Alfonso Carmona Superintendent /

Mr. Carmona moved to the United States 16 years ago and began an accomplished career as a teacher and leader in Chicago Public Schools. He taught bilingual students at Hedges Elementary and then at Inter-­American Magnet School. Mr. Carmona completed the New Leaders Aspiring Principals Program and spent one school year as a Resident Principal and an additional year as an Assistant Principal.

In 2010, Mr. Carmona became principal at Healy Elementary and began the process of taking the school from “good to great.” In 2016, Healy was ranked #2 among all 485 PreK-8 schools in Chicago. Healy has also been selected as a Distinguished School by the National Title I School Association to recognize its outstanding student performance.

Mr. Carmona became our Augustine Prep superintendent in June of 2016. He intends to ensure that every student on our campus – regardless of socioeconomic status or language – will have an opportunity to be successful.

Alfonso Carmona earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Cartagena in Colombia, as well as a master’s degree in education at both the University of Illinois at Chicago and the American College of Education. He’s currently pursuing a doctoral degree in school administration at Western Illinois University.
