Tribute to Perseverance

Coming together to support our students in a meaningful way.

This past year has been historic for our world. The pressure has been put on our students, teachers and Aug Prep's first graduating class of seniors.

As a non-profit that invests $2,500 in each and every student to provide an excellent education, we rely on generosity and fundraising events to help fund those opportunities for students. As our Gala approached, we hesitated. This didn't seem the right thing to do for our donors' safety. A gala couldn't capture what barriers were put in front of the students and teachers.

So we decided to invite our donors to memorialize this year with us.

WHAT IS TRIBUTE TO PERSEVERANCE?

Tribute to Perseverance is how we are celebrating not only our first graduating class, but a year of overcoming challenges. As we persevered through 2020-2021, we developed a stronger character which gives us hope and strength for the next chapter.

With the help of Milwaukee artist Jonathan Shaw and YOU, we are building a permanent, collaborative art wall within the school which will be made up of over 1,000 4”x4” canvas tiles. Each tile will be individually painted by donors, students and community members and will be installed together to create a larger masterpiece.

Supporters can purchase pieces of varying sponsorship levels to honor a loved one, a student, or teacher.

We look forward to memorializing this historic year with you!

HOW WILL IT WORK?

STEP ONE

Milwaukee based artist Jonathan Shaw designs an image as line art and sketches it onto blank canvas tiles. The mural is then separated and distributed to students and donors. Each package that is sent out in the mail will include all necessary supplies (i.e paint, brushes, tile) and instructions on what to do with the material and how to send it back. You can see what the final image will look like here!

STEP TWO

Students and donors will receive line art tiles for them to fill in with designated colors and guidelines of what areas to fill in. Students and donors will then send back their completed tiles to Aug Prep.

STEP THREE

Once Aug Prep receives all completed tiles, the artist will arrange them to create the larger masterpiece.Tiles will be sealed together and mounted onto a backer that will be installed to a designated wall within the school.

STEP FOUR

Aug Prep will keep you posted on the special unveiling happening Spring, 2022!

YEHONATAN ART

After earning his art degree in Seattle in 2010, Jonathan moved back to his family's farm in Richland Center, Wisconsin to focus on faith, family and artwork. There, he would often spend his afternoons wandering the 160 acres of rolling hills and dense forest gaining inspiration from nature and scripture. It was in this simple, rural setting that the young artist developed his playful style of folk art. In 2013, Jonathan moved to the Milwaukee area, where he was predominantly raised and sank his roots into the city with a close group of friends.

Jonathan's whimsical expression is also inspired by various cultures from around the world as well as his desire to see life through the eyes of a child; full of wonder and awe. Throughout his career, art has become an avenue for Jonathan to enter into times of prayer, meditation and worship. Creativity has allowed the artist to cultivate a deeper relationship with the Lord and its Jonathan's hope that others experience the life-giving power of art and faith.

Jonathan lives in Milwaukee with his lovely wife, Kelsey, and their two boys, Ezra and Silas. They love exploring the outdoors, swimming in Lake Michigan (preferably not in winter though) and being with friends and family.
