Nathan Carlberg

Nathan joined the Aug Prep team in 2015 as the founding Elementary School Principal. He grew up in the Chicago area and attended Purdue University. He began his career in 2007 as a second-grade teacher in Baltimore, MD, through Teach For America. It didn’t take long for him to fall in love with urban education and elementary school—he knew he had found his calling.

He went on to teach second and third grade literacy in both Baltimore and San Jose, CA, where he contributed to a school turnaround initiative and a school start-up. In 2013, he became a founding Assistant Principal at Rocketship Southside Community Prep in Milwaukee, where he served for two years.

Nathan came on board as the elementary school principal for St. Augustine Preparatory Academy in June of 2015. He was tasked with hiring staff, setting an instructional vision, and helping launch Aug Prep in the fall of 2017. Since then, he has had the privilege of working with hundreds of incredible students and what he describes as the best teachers in Milwaukee.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Purdue University, a master’s degree in teaching from Johns Hopkins University, and an administrative certificate from Towson University.
