Liznette Ortiz Alicea
Liznette Ortiz is a passionate, student-, family-, and community-centered special education teacher who believes learning should be fun, engaging, and hands-on. Her journey in education began at New York Foundling Head Start in Puerto Rico in 2005, where she discovered her calling to serve students with diverse learning needs.
Liznette earned a bachelor's degree in Special Education, a master's degree in Autism Spectrum Disorders, and is currently pursuing a doctorate in Educational Leadership. She officially began her career as a special education teacher in Puerto Rico in 2014 and has served diverse communities, including individuals with multiple and severe disabilities, teaching them independent life skills.
Her priority is the education of the whole child. She fosters all areas of children's development and learning, focusing primarily on their social-emotional needs. Her teaching style emphasizes creativity, strong personal connections, and meaningful real-world experiences. She strives to make learning a joyful and meaningful experience for every student, every day.
Ms. Ortiz moved to Milwaukee in 2017 to work as a bilingual special education teacher for MPS, where she created inclusive, structured, and nurturing classrooms that promoted academic and personal growth for all students.
Liznette is a Christian woman who loves mission trips, learning about other cultures, high-risk outdoor activities, photography, plants and reading. She cherishes creating lasting memories with her loved ones. A devoted wife, proud mother of two, and joyful grandmother to a spirited little boy.
Ms. Ortiz is very excited to join St. Augustine Elementary School to start integrating faith-based learning. She is convinced that integrating faith into education is key to strengthening the school-family-community relationship.
