Megan Westra grew up in a small town in West Virginia, and holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Bluefield University, because the original plan was to become a physical therapist. However, in 2010 God called Mrs. Westra and her husband to Milwaukee to work with a church plant on Milwaukee's north side, and that changed the course of her life.
Mrs. Westra served as a pastor for ten years, ministered as a hospice chaplain during the height of the pandemic, and has spent the last four years teaching theology classes at the high school level. In the midst of all that, she also earned her Master of Divinity with an emphasis in Community Development through Northern Seminary in Chicago.
Her thesis work was later adapted and published in August 2020 with Herald Press. She has never quite gotten over The Message paraphrase of John 1:14 "The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood." In all things, Mrs. Westra strives to live and to help students discover and see the ways God is living and active among us in our daily lives, no matter the circumstances.
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Westra is an avid reader, a distance runner, and an
overly ambitious gardener. She enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and
their giant 90-pound velcro dog.
